MECHANICAL
How It Was Constructed

Prototyping
Before arriving at our final design, we went through some mechanical prototypes to test out the viability of our ship concept. We began with weight calculations and trials using a brick and slab of foam and finally settled upon a foam hull encased in fiberglass for a durable, floatable, watertight pirate ship! To see our iterations, check out the Prototypes tab.

Bill of Materials
We were limited to a budget of $150. Since we have been building mechatronic systems for a few quarters now, most of our materials came from our personal collections and scavenging our old projects. In addition to these found components, we bought a cheap RC boat to harvest its motors and propellers and invested in a ship wheel to recreate the quintessential cartoon pirate ship experience.
