Drive Train

We decided to use a timing belt and gear train from McMaster-Carr. The gear ratio was 1.7 to 1. It was a challenge to make a sturdy and tensionable belt system. We decided to cut slots in the base platform to allow for a sliding motor mount platform. We used Four sets of bolts on each side to tighten down the motor platform once we decided on an apporpriate tension. In order to ensure a frictionless system, we used nylon bushings. In order to reduce slack between the motor and the wheel (since we were using the encoders), we decided to use permanent (stiff) couplers instead of the spider couplers that were provided in lab. These couplers were extremely effective and never slipped.
